Rich Tan Teck Hee  (An article written in 2014)

I am happy and proud to be reconnected with the former 4th Batch OSs after a very long hiatus. Many of us met again in 2014. Engaging in conversations during our monthly gatherings had been very enriching. We realized that we were able to talk about everything under the sky especially when we had missed one another for so long. Some of us could not even believe that we could still be able to meet and reminisce just like the way we did. It was great that we could still keep our fond memories flowing. Indeed, these memories never fail to delight us.

As an OS previously, I was given many opportunities to work closely with my batchmates to implement numerous community projects. The usefulness of the NYLTI training left a great impact in my memory.

As I remember it vividly, I had a chance to be posted to the National Service Vigilante Corps (NSVC) for my job assignment together with my other former colleagues in the late 1960s and early 1970s. As a Program Officer, I had to conduct lessons for the part-time NSmen during their NS training. I can still remember those days when I was attached to the District 8 Office when the late Police ASP Ng Woon Poh was the Officer-in-charge. Sometimes, I was allowed to stay there overnight due to need to perform late-night duties.

After leaving the PA in the 1980s, I ventured into businesses. Yearly travelling in multiple times to Papua New Guinea, an Oceanian country, was my next career. I enjoyed doing import and export for the expatriate community there. I gained many new experiences travelling to Port Moresby on the shores of the Gulf of Papua. Dealing with people of different cultures and history was an interesting and enriching experience of a lifetime. I was also lucky to be able to set up my tailoring business to add colors to my life.

Now, I treasure and enjoy the good time I spend with my former colleagues again though it’s only once a month. I wish my friends a Happy Reminiscence while they enjoy good health, good luck and great happiness.
